Edwards and Wembanyama Memorabilia Set Record Prices at Auction

Anthony Edwards and Victor Wembanyama took center stage at the recent Goldin Auctions’ April Elite sale, where prices for their memorabilia soared to unprecedented heights. The event coinciding with a standout playoff performance by Edwards only added to the excitement surrounding these coveted items.

One of the highlights of the auction was an early NBA jersey worn by Anthony Edwards during his fourth career game, which commanded an impressive $118,978, setting a new record for any Edwards jersey sold publicly. This particular jersey, authenticated by MeiGray/NBA and featuring notable photomatching, marked a significant moment in Edwards’ career as he notched his first career block and contributed 12 points. Edwards’ meteoric rise was further solidified during the 2024 playoffs when he etched his name alongside legends like Kobe Bryant by scoring over 40 points in consecutive postseason games.

Another coveted piece from the auction was an Anthony Edwards 2020-21 Panini National Treasures Rookie Patch Autograph card, graded BGS GEM MINT 9.5 with a pristine Beckett 10 for autographs, which fetched an impressive $85,550.

Victor Wembanyama also attracted substantial interest, particularly in his rookie cards. A 2023-24 Panini Prizm Green Shimmer First Off The Line rookie card, numbered 1 of 5 and graded PSA 10, commanded a staggering $113,460. Additionally, a rare Gold Shimmer rookie card numbered 7/10 belonging to Wembanyama closed at $49,410.

The auction didn’t solely focus on modern basketball stars, as it also featured iconic items from the past. A 1996-97 Kobe Bryant Topps Chrome Refractor rookie card fetched an impressive $92,720, while a 2018 Panini Prizm World Cup Gold Power Prizm Kylian Mbappe rookie card, graded BGS MINT 9, achieved $92,190.

The sale also included memorabilia from former Duke star Cherokee Parks, with his NCAA Championship ring achieving $44,320. Photographs capturing pivotal moments in the early careers of basketball legends Michael Jordan and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar weren’t left behind, fetching $15,982 and $14,640, respectively.

Adding further diversity to the auction was a jersey from Fernando Tatis’s early MLB days, worn during his first career road game, which sold for $10,098. The vast array of memorabilia on offer underscores the enduring appeal of sports collectibles across various generations and sports, showcasing a fervent interest that transcends time and boundaries.
